



Epochs
The company’s history can be divided in four epochs.
1800 - 1860 | The early earthware Making use of the English "Art of Wedgewood" in Germany for the first time. Implementation of transfer pattern. |
1800 | sober shapes without patterns |
1800 ff. | earthware decorated with intaglio printing spatial sectioning of the "mirror", decorative borders, souvenir plates with urban "vedutas" |
1818 | products are marked "Zell", 1828: Biedermeier style, lavish decoration, souvenir plate with romantic scenes and richly decorated borders |
100 years Zell porcelain 1842 - 1942
products with handle forming the initials of the company's name (J.F.L.). Blossom and branch ornaments coloured pold and grey-purple.
from 1858 | awards and medals for "perfection in manufacturing porcelain", lavish flower decoration or rural pictures |
1842 - 1942 | porcelain für everyday use |
1860 | creating and producing of the patterns "Alt-Zell" up to shortly before World War II. |
1885 | unique clock case on the occasion of the building of the Black Forest Railway with lavish decoration, named also second Baroque. |
1896 | stone printing: the patterns are transferred to the porcelain, thus creating naturalistic, floral and ARt Nouveau themes. |
1942 | closing production of procelain due to energy shortage in World War II. |

1907 - 1990 | “Georg Schmider, Vereinigte Keramische Fabrik” since 1898 Karl Schöner creates patterns like „Hahn und Henne“ (rooster and hen) and „Alt Straßburg“ Elisabeth Schmidt-Pecht designs until 1914 patterns like „Favorite“ (also known as “Konstanzer Geschirr” – tableware of Constance). |
1911 | Alfred Kusche designs “St. Blasien” and plates with quotations as well as “Schwarzwälder Fayencen” – faiences from Black Forest: painted blue yellow under a bluish glaze. Besides this art nouveau vases, wall plates, flower pots and figurines are created. |
1926 | Bauhaus style: simplified forms, clean-lined designs. Sole decorative ornament: red handles |
1946 | World War II ceased the upswing. Only monochrome glazed tableware for every day has been produced |
Zeller Keramik – today
Classical patterns “Favorite”, “Hahn und Henne” oder “Alt Straßburg” are still produced and largely painted by hand. New patterns representing the modern country-house style like “Fleur de Provence”, “Bella Toscana” complete the range. Named “ono – one nature only” these new patterns are shown the first time at the Frankfurt Fair “Ambiente” in 2007.
